John 11:11-14 Then he said, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but now I will go and wake him up.” The disciples said, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will soon get better!” They thought Jesus meant Lazarus was simply sleeping, but Jesus meant Lazarus had died. So he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.
We all know that Jesus was the Son of God but he exhibited great power when he spoke. Not only he exhibited great power, he did great deeds. Jesus was showing his disciples that we have power over those things that are dead. We have the power over those things that are conquering us. We even have power over our financial situation. I have heard many stories about people coming through their finances but I have even heard more stories and talked to people who are in dire strait with their money. The issue with many of us is not more money. The issue with many is not that they are in debt but the issue is the fact that action has not been taken to resurrect their finances. Many have told me that they are changing their financial situation but they never do. Jesus acted and woke up his friend Lazarus.
Jesus has given us the power to resurrect our finances. He has given us the ability to get wealth according to Deuteronomy 8:18. The time for financial passiveness is over. We can no longer retreat. God never intended for His children to live a life of lack, need or desperation. So let me give you the steps of financial resurrection.
1. Stewardship – stewardship is managing someone else resources. We have to understand our money, homes, cars, and land are not ours. It belongs to our creator. We are given a charge to be faithful, fruitful, and multiply what we have according to 1 Corinthian 4:2 and Genesis 1:28.
2. Budgeting – When surveyed participants in a seminar, over 70% of the people do not operate on a budget. If we don’t operate on a budget, how will we increase our finances? Even the government is learning to operate on a budget now.
3. Giving – Giving is a catalyst to resurrect anything that you desire. Jesus gave up his time to tend to Lazarus even though he was dead. He invested into Lazarus so that he could live and show the power of the resurrection.
4. Investing – The idea of investing must be a staple if your finances are to be resurrected. Investing is just planting and watching it grow while you are continuing to water it.
These four areas are a must for any resurrection to occur. I am not making light of the power of resurrection but if we don’t take heed to the example of Jesus, our finances might not even recover for us or for generations to come.
