As you can see the widow was in dire straights because the creditors were taking her sons. She had now where to go. No money because her husband was dead. The prophet Elisha told her to go borrow some containers and pour her oil into them until they are filled. Afterwards, she went back to the prophet and the prophet told her these words - Go, sell the oil, and live off the rest. Her miracle to get out of debt was immediate. This tells us that the breakthrough of debt is in your house!
I know that there are many programs out there to get rid of debt. All of them work well however it takes a very long time to get out of them. I am not bashing them but there has to be a better method to get rid of debt. Let me take you to the Bible for a set of passages that will enlighten you on this aspect that I utilize before. In 2 Kings 4:1-7 from the Message Bible, it says
One day the wife of a man from the guild of prophets called out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead. You well know what a good man he was, devoted to God. And now the man to whom he was in debt is on his way to collect by taking my two children as slaves.” Elisha said, “I wonder how I can be of help. Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Nothing,” she said. “Well, I do have a little oil.” “Here’s what you do,” said Elisha. “Go up and down the street and borrow jugs and bowls from all your neighbors. And not just a few—all you can get. Then come home and lock the door behind you, you and your sons. Pour oil into each container; when each is full, set it aside.” She did what he said. She locked the door behind her and her sons; as they brought the containers to her, she filled them. When all the jugs and bowls were full, she said to one of her sons, “Another jug, please.” He said, “That’s it. There are no more jugs.” Then the oil stopped. She went and told the story to the man of God. He said, “Go sell the oil and make good on your debts. Live, both you and your sons, on what’s left.”

How do you find the breakthrough? Look at those things that are causing you a pain or a strain on your budget. I have a net worth sheet that will identify your major liabilities or debts. Once you see where it is, you will begin to attack it. If you need a copy, let me know and I will send it. Proverbs 10:22 say the blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it. If what you have is adding sorrow, get rid of it. God always give his children good gifts. God does not give bad gifts. Getting out of debt should be one of our priorities because it allows us to do others things that God gives us.
